Notes

I made this to fit my smaller, 4-cup teapot by using worsted weight yarn and casting on 32 stitches.

It’s a very warm tea cozy, thanks to the thickness of the pleats.

I left 2 pleats and 2 stockinette portions unseamed on one side for the spout, and on the other side I left 2 pleats and 3 stockinette portions open for the handle.

Modifications:

  • Used worsted weight yarn instead of the roving
  • Cast on 32 sts instead of 27, and just did an extra decrease on each decrease row.
  • On 38th row, P2, P2tog TWICE, P1
  • I made up my own bee - see below.
  • A 4-cup teapot holds 24 oz and its circumference at its widest point is about 16 inches

Bee body:

  • Worsted weight yarn in black and yellow, 3 mm dpns
  • Cast on 3 sts
  • Kfb in each stitch, join in the round (6 sts)
  • Next round Kfb in each stitch (12 sts)
  • Change to yellow, knit 2 rounds
  • Change to black, knit 2 rounds
  • Change to yellow, Knit 2 rounds
  • Change to black, knit 2 rounds
  • Change to yellow, knit one round
  • Lightly stuff body if desired before proceeding.
  • Next round (yellow): {K2tog} around (6 sts)
  • Break off yellow yarn, change to black for rest of bee.
  • Knit 1 round in black
  • Next round: {K1, Kfb} around (9 sts)
  • Knit two rounds plain
  • Next round: {K1, K2tog} around (6 sts)
  • Break yarn and draw tail through remaining stitches. -Lightly stuff head and pull top closed. Weave in yarn tails.

Bee wings (make 2):

  • 3 mm needles, small amount of white laceweight yarn (I used Istex Einband)
  • Cast on 2 sts with long tail cast on
  • Row 1: Kfb, Kfb (4 sts)
  • Row 2: Knit all
  • Row 3: Kfb, K2, Kfb (6 sts)
  • Rows 4-9: Knit plain
  • Row 10: K2tog, K2, K2tog (4 sts)
  • Row 11: K2tog, K2tog (2 sts)
  • Cut yarn and pull tail through remaining two stitches.
