Which is a worse habit - belated gifting or knitting winter garments in summer? Either way I’m guilty of both. I comforted myself that even if I had finished this project on time (mid June), it wouldn’t be wearable until the fall. Plus, I was spending a lot of time with the recipient which cut down on when I could knit it. Excuses Excuses.
It’s done and I’m very pleased with it. Such a simple pattern with a great result. It was my first time knitting with Kauni Wool and I really enjoyed it. My S.O., ever critical, said it was “one of the cooler knitted things I’ve made.” High praise. Very high praise. I’ve knit A LOT of things.
Just a couple of modifications to note. First, I went with a size 6 needle rather than a size 4. I wanted the project to be wearable any which way, inside out and upside down. Going up a couple of needles sizes made it long enough to do just that (see photos). Second, I picked up stitches around the armhole and put a few rows of garter stitch trim to give them a little more structure. That also allowed me to make the armholes slightly smaller. In retrospect, I should have bound off less stitches for the armholes considering the needle size increase. Next time.
One last thing. I could totally see getting frogged on this pattern if it wasn’t a gift. It’s pretty much knitting a blanket. My mom and I both agree that getting to the second armhole was really motivating to finish the last 17”. Seriously.
On to the next project…..
