Notes

Mods: mostly in knit st, as per grellowgal’s pinery (link in full notes). Also, see notes from Jun 9/13 for alterations to overall shaping. 3 st i-cord bind-off at neckline, rather than 4. My hemline ribbing wasn’t as long as suggested, it only runs for a single cable repeat. I made 3/4-length sleeves and finished them in a 1x1 ribbed cuff for 8 rows.

May 28/13: wound yarn tonight, will likely start swatching tomorrow and may purchase the pattern as well. I’m going to have to get creative about how to divide up the yarn so that things blend well. I think I’ll start with Lapis exclusively, then alternate work with the lightest skein of Fathom and get successively darker by alternating. I will be modifying as per grellowgal’s pinery. I love the look of her version. I may only work 3/4 sleeves, since I find long sleeves fairly impractical for a desk job.

May 30/13: purchased the pattern today after having checked the gauge swatch yesterday.

Jun 1/13: I’m done the colour transition from the lighter blue to the more inky blue. I was heavily inspired by Transition Gloves for how to handle the gradient. I like how it looks so far.

Jun 9/13: okay, so I when I split off for the sleeves, I ended up accidentally forgetting to cast on half of the sts under each arm as is recommended -- 4 instead of 8. A quick check of the math involved led me to believe that I had nothing to fear from this error, so I continued on. This meant that the decreases for the waist-shaping changed so that I only completed one round of decreases under the arm, then completed the rest as suggested, at the edges of the front and back panels. Rather than increase for the hips to the full amount suggested (which would have resulted in a wider hip area than bust), I only increased to get to the XS stitch count. There were an extra pair of sts on the front and back, rather than on the sides (in comparison to the pattern). Also, I ended up making the sweater too long before starting the ribbing, so I ripped back to one cable repeat before when I initially started (and had to get my sts back on my needle, fixing an errant cable while I was at it), then began my ribbing. Phew!

Jun 10/13: I have, literally, 5g left of the darker Fathom and am working on the i-cord for the neckline before I begin the sleeves. I’ll probably work those two at a time, to use up what I can of the remaining Fathom. Update: 15g of Lapis remaining.

Jun 12/13: I’m almost done the sleeves. I’ve had to re-skein and wash the last partial skein of Fathom I had because it’s the one I swatched with and ripping left my yarn with a kink in it. So, I’m unlikely to finish this tomorrow, but- SOON. I love the way it’s turning out, incidentally, and can hardly wait to see it once it’s been blocked. Also, this is the video I consulted for two-at-a-time knitting.

Jun 13/13: incidentally, knitting the sleeves two at a time from a centre-pull ball with both ends wound into the centre results in a maddening amount of detangling. When I re-wind the final skein, I’m going to halve the 62g into two, attached, centre-pull balls of about 31g each. That should solve my twisting yarn problem.

Jun 14/13: I’m done knitting! I still have ends to weave in and the under arms to graft, then blocking, but I’m otherwise done. <3

Jun 15/13: wet-blocking now.

Jun 16/13: the photo of the sweater on the red bedspread is the post-blocking sweater, but I’m featuring the pictures with me in it because I think this is super-flattering. I adore this sweater.
