I really like the Spring colors of this sock. I called this Spring Chicken sock because it took me 2 years to get the nerve up to try a Cat Bordhi New Pathways sock.
3/14 I learned Judy’s Magic Cast on tonight. I figured out how to knit cobblestone cuff after ripping back twice. I didn’t read that I needed to cast on 54 stitches on each needle for a total of 108 stitches.
3/16 I was knitting along at a very good pace and then I decided it was time for a second try on. I had tried on the sock at about 4 inches and it fit. But when I got to the heel and had the whole body knit, it was too tight for my calf. I had read from several other knitters here on Ravelry that this sock was really long. But, I ignored that it was very long and so it didn’t fit over my calf. So, I ripped the sock back. I measured my Ragtime socks and found that I knit them at 8 stitch/inch and had cast on 64 stitches. So, I looked at the Slipstitch Rings pattern and match those measurements up to the 9.5 inch size. So, I cast on again 66 stitches.
3/31 I finished the first sock.
6/10 When I finished the first sock, I thought the heel looked a little funny but then these techniques were all new to me. So, I finished the toe and started the second sock. I knit the leg the same as the first sock. Then I came to the heel. And all I can say is that I have no idea what I did to the first heel but it was completely wrong! And it didn’t fit as well as the second sock. So, I ripped the first sock back to the end of the leg portion and reknit the heel and foot. I ended up knitting the equivalent of 2 pairs of socks. I did learn a lot about sock design and repairing your knitting.
