Sending in 9 squares, getting 9 back, and seaming them to make a blanket…
Squares 1 and 2: made with peruvian highland wool from elann and knitpicks. Some of it has been in my stash for a while! Some of it was used in my greendragon’s Birdies. I used Alice Starmore’s Charts for Color Knitting to get the center design. I then picked up stitches and knit a mitered garter stitch border in the round.
Square 3: made from handspun yarn I bought in Nova Scotia (handspun in Cape Breton). I used a lace pattern from Vogue Knitting Stitchionary 5 bordered by 2 rows and 2 stitches of garter stitch. I love the architectural effect of lace on chunky yarn!
Square 4: made with peruvian highland wool from elann. I used a motif from Continuous Cables for the center. I then picked up stitches and knit a mitered garter stitch border.
Square 5 : made with peruvian highland wool from elann and knitpicks. I used a motif from Continuous Cables. I then picked up stitches on either side and knit 4 ridges of garter stitch. Kinda like a flag.
Square 6 : made with done roving frolicking feet yarn. The yarn was a gift from clementine1. I used most of it on greendragon’s Wild Violets Shawl and had just enough for one square left over. I love this yarn and I wanted to do the colours justice. I wanted the varigation to look like it does in the shawl. I tried a couple lace patterns but that didn’t work. Then, I decided on entrelac. On my first try, the squares were too small so I got a striped effect which wasn’t right. So I ended up making big squares and it’s perfect.
Squares 7 and 8 : back to peruvian highland wool from elann and knitpicks. I chose english diamond quilting pattern from Barbara Walker’s first treasury. I adore this pattern! I then picked up stitches and knit a mitered garter stitch border in the round.
Square 9: made with peruvian highland wool from elann and knitpicks. I used the turtle pattern from Barbara Walker’s third treasury. Then, I added a double crochet border all the way around. Then I picked up stitches all the way around to make a two colour mitered border (1 round purl cream, 1 round knit cream, 1 round knit alternating 1 stitch cream and 1 stitch green, 1 round knit green, 1 round purl green, bind off).
