Notes

This started as a test knit-- I was testing out my hood plan for my Swish Ginny sweater that was also DK weight. I decided to pick this up and go top-down to use up some scrap yarns. I’ve never knitted a top-down hoodie/cardi before so this’ll be interesting!

I drew up my plan for how to use the scrap yarn so I’m interested in how it turns out as well.

Almost done!! Everything’s done except the buttons. I should have just scrapped some together but I’m a goob and ordered some from Etsy so they’d match.

Some notes so I don’t forget:

  • I used every last inch of the cleakheaton! I should measure what remains of the fingering weight in grams to ensure stash accuracy.
  • Top down hoodie worked well. Provisional cast on to go bottom up for the hood, then picked up from top-down to do a regular raglan.
  • I left off the pockets and have decided that pockets mid-knit are too much of a nightmare. I can always add them later if I have enough yarn and want them. They need to go right where all my damn butt and hip shaping need to happen and I always rip that out once and it’s sad when pockets are also involved… maybe I can steek some onto this cardigan someday if I ever get over the nausea of thinking about the very concept of steeking….
  • I did a 6-stitch attached I-cord for the button band, skipping two rows/attached stitches fo each button hole. After each button hole I k3tog with the next two st/rows to ensure a secure rejoin, and in some spots I sewed round the hold for reinforcement.
  • I ran out of cleakheaton halfway thru the button band, but T convinced me the lace yarn looked close enough, and if anyone notices they’ll just think it’s a cool design accent.
  • I-cord button band looks nice and wasn’t as painful as a ribbed one would’ve been. But it still took like four danged days to do.
  • This is the best shaped thing I’ve made, especially to my arms. Replicate the increase and decrease positions by inch if not rows!!!

Oh. Worth noting this sweater made entirely in quarantine. Also I listened to TAZ Amnesty and binged all of The Good Place while working on it.
