I’ve been buying supplies to start needle felting, but wanted to try a beginner project before diving in to more ambitious ones. I heard a little mushroom is a good start.

I didn’t have any color roving (just ordered gray, black, and white), but I had some very raw bulky yarn from Oregon sheep called Native Twist. I never had a plan for the red skein; it came as a bonus when I ordered some brown-grey skeins a few years ago. I figured there must be a way to use it for felting but I wasn’t sure how. I found this article which recommended using a doggy wire brush to brush out yarn into feltable fiber. What a great idea! That’s how I got some red for this mushroom.

I used some cheap white roving from Joann for the spots and base and I love how it came out!
