yarn for blue-green pair is frogged from https://www.ravelry.com/projects/greymattersart/one-day-hat

first pair finished 4/4 (dk weight), started in the middle of the fingering weight pair and then got carried away.. picture later

Decided to redo the green thumb on the DK weight because it was too tight. I added some short rows on the knuckle.
(I’m procrastinating kitchener stitch on the fingering pair….)
Edit: Turns out kitchener in garter is WAY EASIER than stockinette -- https://www.knitpicks.com/learning-center/learn-to-knit/g...

I ended up taking out and redoing the thumb on the fingering pair as well, and will alter any future pairs I make. My thumb knuckle at least really needs a gusset or these fit super strange. See https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/mitten-anatom... for anatomy concepts.
What I recommend instead is:
Provisional cast on right before the swirl, 1-2 rows of knitting stockinette in the round at the max width number of stitches (I think 24?), then proceed from step 5 onward.
At the end, pick back up from provisional cast-on to knit upward. You can still do rib if you want but I preferred garter or stockinette myself. Do short rows around the starting point (middle of knuckle), leaving 1-2 stitches untouched right at the thumb/forefinger crease. I ended this pair with 4 (8) short rows done across 8, 10, 12, and 14 of the 18 stitches.

In the end I really love how these turned out and I’ll be making at least one more pair, with the remaining yarn from the fingering ball. This’ll probably be a go-to pattern for me for weird variegated yarns I bought with no plan except to marvel at the dye job. I made a heavily modded version for myself to use in future, supporting multi weights, etc. Very challenging little project, in a good way.
