finally photographed the completed capecho c/o the lovely clea garrick of http://www.limedrop.com.au/ in glorious melbs who let me use her mannequin - my bod just doesn’t compare to a plastic wonder.

gusset tip: before starting any project, please do check out the project by searching for the pattern, then choose the project page, then advanced search to see the most favourited wonders of all that is good and holy, like so:
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#pattern-link=02-ca...

right. i used the wonderful klun bolero mods, and made up my own sleeves, by simply cabling as far as i wanted, then swapping that out for ribbing. for the love of all that is holy, please knit the sleeves separately, then attach. i stupidly did them in the round - which meant turning into a freaking wrestler every round, throwing the whole garment this way and that. not so smart, kylie.

thinking about it now, i knit the sleeves circular too, buying more fancy needles (brittany double pointed birch 5mm) - knitting flat, then seaming would have probably been a sanity saver.

the wonder of this garment is that it looks quite difficult, but the genius that is norah gaughan has made it really quite simple. once you’ve made one hex, you don’t really need the cable pattern anymore - it’s easily remembered, and simple to do. that’s saying a lot, coming from me, beginner knitter after 10+ years of continually making the same dumb mistakes. don’t start me on the olympic maneuver known as the triple long tail cast on - as in, it usually takes 3 goes to get there, not some smart montse stanley derived knit elegance.

in conclusion - the capecho further confirms that norah gaughan is a living treasure, a freaking genius, and it’s beyond me the mere concept of knitting anything else that has not been graced by her thought. it is highly tempting to merely dedicate my life to the pursuit of All Things Norah (have i knitted anything out of knitting nature yet? um…noooooo….)

if you have been wistfully checking out this pattern, thinking…someday…someday is today, my friend.

need a lovely yarn to knit it in? you can grab the same aran weight cormo from the founding family on etsy here:
