My First Amigurumi!
This is my first attempt at making an amigurumi. I have seen so many cute stuffed animals and other objects from stuffed food to make a kid’s play set! I knew I wanted to learn how to make cute amigurumi! I got a dinosaur amigurumi book for Christmas but those patterns are much more difficult / detailed than the bunny.
I decided to start with Sam the Big-Bottomed Bunny designed by Laura Biondi because there were simple parts and easy to follow directions. This pattern is in the book I own “101 Projects from Crocheters Around the World Crochet One-Skein Wonders” Edited by Judith Durant and Edie Eckman.
Started off with making the body, then the head, then the 2 arms, and the 2 ears and lastly the tail. Then came the task of sewing my bunny together! When I did the head I put in 2 safety eyes (6 mm) and made my bunny’s nose using wooly nylon thread before sewing it to the body.
I must give credit to my Dad for helping me find the best placement for Mr. Bunny’s arms, ears and tail. Without his help I doubt Mr. Bunny would stand upright! Used a scale to measure the weight of the arms and found I used too much stuffing in the one, which I then removed to make the arms even weight wise. I did not want a lopsided bunny!
The only thing left to do is the ribbon. I don’t have any ribbon on hand so I may use some lace my grandmother had leftover or make Mr. Bunny a scarf in a different color. I have not decided which would look better!
Entered my bunny into the Kutztown Fair and I won 3rd place for Creative Easter.
