I loved every minute of knitting this shawl! It took much longer to complete due to weakness from my March 2022 stroke. The stitches were knitted with love, prayers, and so many emotions. This gift to my daughter is from my
.
07/17 - Over the last few days I’ve pondered how I want to finish the shawl. I’ve decided to do a contrasting color garter row with a beaded picot bind off. Will def take a few days, my arm is giving me grief.
07/13 - Super slow knitting due to my weak left arm, but I’m happy to still be able to knit! A few more rows then binding off with beads.
Happy 99th Birthday, Mom! (1923-2005) I know you’d love wearing my knitted shawls!

06/25 - My great grandson entered the world today! 6 lbs 10 oz, he’s gorgeous and I can hardly wait to hold him!
Still knitting on this shawl, going very slowly due to my weak left arm. Honestly, I’ve enjoyed it so much I don’t want it to end. It’s been a long time since I’ve knitted monogamously, the yarns and the process keep me happy.
06/09 - Spent hours tinking then ripping back to Row 1 and putting the stitches back OTN. Now to place the markers and move on. I’m late for another MKAL, but I’m really enjoying this one and want to keep going.
06/08 - My count is off by one stitch/repeat, a missed YO in Row 5. I’m on Row 9, 450+ sts. Ugh. That’s a whole lot of tinking back to Row 4, not sure if my wrists are up to it. I could rip but I’d lose the marked repeats. Sigh.
06/05 - Starting Clue 5. 471 sts OTN. I’ve chosen to knit Ocean Waves instead of Ocean Lace.
Slow moving through this with my weak left side. Long stretches of knitting makes for a painful left wrist. I’m not in a race for the prizes, my prize is this beautiful shawl!
05/31 - Row 34. Another row where if I followed the pattern, the YOs wouldn’t line up. My stitch count is correct so I’m adjusting the first and last number of stitches. I’m glad I have stitch markers in place.
05/19 - Starting Clue 4. 377 sts OTN.
After knitting a few rows to see how the eyelets line up, I’m tinking back to Row 18 and adjusting the first and last stitch counts. The instructions say knit 9 before and after the first and last repeats. I had 8 sts ending with 10 sts, so I adjusted to make the first and last counts correct. Well, moving one stitch really does make a difference! Lesson learned.
05/17 - I can’t find anything that says the markers are moved. Row 18 is an eyelet row and I want them to line up. I’ll move the marker +1 and hope it works. I won’t know for a few rows. Being an overthinker/perfectionist can be a frustrating time waster.
05/16 - 344 sts OTN. I have the correct count but am stuck going forward. Going to check the threads to see if the stitchmarkers are supposed to move one stitch.
05/13 - Friday 13th and I’m finally on a roll! I think I was in a rush both times when picking up stitches, and this time I slowed down and focused. My focus is short due to the stroke, but it’s getting longer every day. Knitting is good brain exercise.
05/12 - Ripping out Clue 3 for the second time. I don’t like how one end of the shawl is pointy and the other rounded. Ambah’s spoiler shows both ends pointed. Time to pick up 263 sts and try again.
05/10 - Starting Clue 3.
05/08 - Finished Clue 2.
04/27 - Slowly knitting and enjoying the process. I enjoy garter, it’s soothing and mindless, allowing me to watch my true crime shows.
04/17 - My project pages also serve as journals if there are health issues that interfere with my knitting. I’m in stroke (#7) recovery, thankful to be perfect physically. Mentally my brain gets tired with the simplest tasks, including garter stitch. When I first started this shawl I could only knit 10 minutes at a time then lay down. I was that mentally exhausted! Now I can knit 15-20 minutes before taking a break. I am excited there’s been improvement so quickly, I hope my knitting speeds up.
04/16 - Emma’s Yarn is a pleasure to knit with, great stitch definition and drapes nicely despite my tight knitting. US5 is working out.
04/14 - CO with US5. If my knitting is too tight, I’ll go up a size.
Clue 1 is live!! Today I wound my yarns, they should work well (no swatching).

Helpful notes for Clue 5 for Ocean Lace from another knitter -
Just finished the swatch.
You will need to move the markers at several rows when there is a ssk or cdd at the repeat boundary. They always move to the right, so they need to be placed one stitch earlier. There is just one exception: Row 5 where they need to be placed one stitch later, just after the first k2tog.
This will happen on Row 2 (see hint below)
Row 7
Row 11
Row 15
Row 17
Hint for Row 2: I would place markers differently already on Row 1 so that the repeat starts with yo, k2tog, yo and ends with p2tog. So you will not have to move markers on Row 2.
