Mauci are a traditional Latvian accessory usually decorated with geometrical bead patterns. The knitting is done sideways in garter stitch with beads incorporated in between stitches.

Since this is my first project knitting with beads I designed a vary basic bead pattern and chose to use single colour beads.

For me the biggest challenge with garter stitch is joining the edges. These mitts were finished with a sewing needle picking up the unclosed stitches of the last row and the upper bar in each stitch of the cast on row. This creates a relatively flat if not invisible join.
