After starting a Which Way shawl in blueish-green colours, which are really cold, I decided I have to have one in rich, warm, brown colours as well.

Pattern
This is a great pattern for using up odd amounts of yarn from a range of weights. In this one I’m using fingering weight, lace weight (held double), sport and DK. Seems to work out fine. I will improvise on the number of stripes according to the amount of yarn I have, and the desired size of shawl (pattern uses a sport/DK weight, I’m mostly using fingering.)

Ease of pattern
I had really big trouble with the first few rows and had to re-try a million times, until I changed the YO to a KFB. Just for the first couple of rows, until I got the pointy bit and the middle spine all set up - then I changed to the YOs like stated in the pattern. Maybe it’s just me and my russian style (combination style) of knitting that got in the way … I don’t know.

Overall pattern rating
It’s a nice idea and design, and easy to knit. I’m not happy with the border however. I particularly dislike the making of and look of the P3tog. It’s bulky and ugly. While not yet finished with the shawl, I’m already planning on adding a garter stitch border.

Yarn
The Malabrigo Sock “Rayon Vert” is an atypical dyelot, the dominant hues being eggplant and burgundy with just a hint of green. I love it!!
