Notes

Pattern calls for bulky held double. I used worsted held quadruple, except for the Tahki Montana, which is a super bulky so it was used single.

I cast on 40 instead of 50. I think my row gauge was bulkier, since I didn’t need nearly 30 rows to make the bottom. I ended up with 8 stitches on each side, 40 front and 42 back by the time I finished the front. Colors were Paton’s brown and Lion brown together. When they ran out, switched to the Tahki and used it up. Then to the Lion Brown Heather. When one of my half balls ran out, switched to Oatmeal, and then finally to pure Oatmeal.

This was a stashbuster, and it used up most brown pure wool I owned.

I felted it in my front loading washer. Started in a mesh bag, but it wasn’t getting enough friction, so I just let it tumble. The front edge rolled, but I decided I like it that way.

I tried to add magnetic clasps, but they weren’t strong enough to go through the fabric, so I crocheted a button loop and attached a large wood button. After living with it for a while, I got sick of accidentally twisting the loop twice around the button, so I replaced it with an i-cord loop.

I’m not the sort of person who switches purses, so I will use this until it wears out. I just put my folded felted purse inside for organization, and I can still use it when the large one isn’t appropriate. Update. I sewed the small purse inside to keep it open. I also sewed a piece of plastic pipe into the back top edge of the envelope so it wouldn’t turn into a big collapsed loop when I carried it. I also put ties at both end of the pipe so I could shorten the handle and loop it over one arm instead of wearing it.
