Notes

1/25 Yes. I know. Totally different weight yarn than the pattern calls for. I swatched a lot before making this decision is really the only way I can explain myself. It was my first choice, sitting there in my stash basket. It was even free, won in a raffle. I thought it wouldn’t work. Not the right weight, different fiber, color change probably won’t work with the stitch pattern. So, I swatched other yarns. Meh. Nothing exciting at all, just suitable. I loved the stitch pattern and the construction so I decided to carry on. I went with the least offensive yarn from my swatches and got 3 rounds in yesterday afternoon, and told myself “no”. Then, late last night, that perfectly posh kinda winked at me from the basket, I thought, “well just try it.” Wound it up and swatched and was in love. Made some adjustments for the smaller gauge, and to make sure I have enough. Still love it starting the third round!

This stitch pattern is all about different hook insertions. I actually messed up in the first round, even in my swatches, but only realize it now. Experienced stitchers will have no problems and will like the unusual construction. If you are less than confident about crochet “stitch anatomy” so to speak, it would be worth reviewing before you start swatching.

2/8/16
I ended up pulling it out and starting again, because I realized I wasn’t turning, and I was concerned I hadn’t made it large enough with my slightly smaller gauge after blocking, even though I knew there would be extra drape with my chosen yarn. I’m glad it did, in the end it looks better and fits nicely. I added a few rows on the back of the neck for better coverage. I also twisted it too much.

I like this pattern a lot, it worked up quickly once I understood the pattern. Totally potential gift material ! This first one is for me, though :-).
