Love this beanie. I’m making one for each of my friends and hopefully one for myself if I have enough yarn left.
I’m adding 12 extra stitches because I tend to knit tighter and I’m going to knit in the round instead of flat as written.
10/25/09 - Finished the first beanie. The pattern says knit until the hat is 6 1/4” from cast-on edge, but that seemed a little long. I started decreasing for the crown at 5 1/4” instead and still feel it’s a bit too long. Incidentally, my stripes match the photos in the book, so how did they make it to 6 1/4?
I’m already starting the second beanie. If my kitchen scale is accurate, I have just enough of the main color to finish it! I need to get more yarn, though, because I definitely want one for myself.
--Later that day--- Nearly done with the pink striped hat. I’m loving this yarn!!!
---Still later--- Both hats are knitted. Just need to sew in some ends and do the finishing. Productive weekend for knitting! One ball of the main color was enough for two hats. I still have enough of the gray contrast color for another hat!
I LOVE jogless color changes! I used the method described in Handknitting with Meg Swanson of lifting the stitch below onto the needle and knitting it together with the first stitch of the second round of a new color (whew!). I had tried this before but completely missed the point that the beginning of the round moves one stitch to the left! I highly recommend this small book, if only for the fact that Swanson refers to a scarf/hat combo as Scat! Yikes!
