I combined the two patterns above but used dc throughout instead of sc. My notes are below:

Ch 37
R1 dc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain to end (35 dc). Turn
R2 Keeping yarn to back of work, pull up loop from last dc of previous row to make 1st broomstick loop. Make 34 more loops.  (35 loops) Turn.
R3 (making 7 groups of 5 broomstick loops) ss 5 loops tog, ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc 4 more times pick up next group of 5 loops .. to end. Turn.
R4 ch3 (counts as 1st dc). Ch 5, fpdc in top of dc between groups of 5 loops 6 times, ch5, dc in 3rd ch of prev row. Turn
R5 ch 3. (Counts as 1st dc) dc 4 more times in 5 ch sp then dc 5 times in each 5 ch sp to end. (35 dc). Turn.
Repeat rows 2-5 until desired length is achieved.
Block work and join with whip stitch.
