Made some changes to the pattern:

1. Provisional cast on. K 15 rows, P 1 row, then K 6 rows in Grey before blue stripes. At row 15 on the chart, I undid the provisional cast on, and knit the provisional edge together with the grey row (see last picture) to create a lining with a smooth (i.e. not ribbed) edge.

2. Did Fairisle through all the blue/grey parts rather than duplicate stitch.

3. For the projecting “bits”: long tail CO 14. K6 rows, P1 row, change to black, K1 row, K2tog (7 stitches), draw tail through. This creates an “edge” to the lens.

4. I used a large black button with a central depression for the front ‘lens’, and a great red button for the “eye”. I added some buttons for the graphics on the back based on images from Google.
