07/05/08: This is my second pair of socks, but my first attempt with such tiny needles. I hope I don’t go blind. My daughter picked the yarn out because “blue is my favorite color.” Since I only have one skein, these socks will be ankle-length or so.
07/06/08: First sock complete, except for the toe grafting. For this sock, I knit the cuff 1 1/2 inches. I knit the foot until the sock was a little over 4 1/2 inches before starting the to decreases, for a total sock length of just over 6 inches. I was worried that the sock would be way too long if I knit to 5 1/2 inches as the pattern directs. My daughter wears a child size 9 and it fits perfectly.
I showed it to my daughter when I was almost done and she said, “I love it!” I asked if she wanted the stripes on the second sock to match exactly, or if it should be different. She chose different… which I was secretly relieved about since I want to be sure to have enough yarn.
07/08/08: Second sock complete. I just need to graft the toes, but that will have to wait for another day. I was worried about having enough yarn, but I still have quite a bit left over.
07/11/08: Both socks complete. I hate grafting, mostly because I don’t feel like I can get the tension of the grafted stitches quite right. I just need more practice, I guess. Anyway, my girl wanted to wear them immediately, so I guess they’re a hit.
