04/01/09: I bought this pattern because I think it’s pretty… and because I’ve become a huge Twilight junkie lately. It was a great deal, too… six patterns for the price of one. And, I already had the perfect red yarn in my stash…
This is my first attempt at toe-up socks. I hope I don’t die.
Here are the mods I’m planning:
- I’m using the Turkish Cast-on instead of the Figure 8 cast-on called for in the pattern… I’m told it gives a better result.
- I’m substituting a Strong/gusset type heel for the short-row heel because I have a high instep and I don’t think a short-row heel will fit right. By the way, this kind of heel will also work cuff-down.
- I’m adjusting the number of stitches on the smaller size from 68 to 60 by omitting one stitch from the K(whatever number) at each end of the pattern repeat.
04/02/09: Yay… I did it! I had to cast-on three times before I was happy with how the toe looked, but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I ended up using a size 0 just for the cast-on and first row, then switched to a size 1.
04/12/09: First sock done. The K4togs are a pain in the butt! I survived by using a teeny size 12 crochet hook for those.
Anyway, I really like how it came out. I’m not 100% happy with cuff, though. I tried a few different bind-offs and ended up using EZ’s sewn bind-off. It’s stretchier than a regular bind-off, but I don’t really like how floppy it looks. It looks fine when the sock is on, though… and I guess that’s what matters.
05/17/09: Finally started the second sock. I got distracted by other things…
05/31/09: Finished! Overall, I’m very happy with them. Oh, and I love this yarn! So soft and nice to work with.
