Notes

I used to be crazy about Noro yarns, but price and extenuating care requirements had put me off from anything that called for them. I thought there are imitations easier to look after and a bit less pricey. …But oh those colours, those textures… It’s like a bunch of dry petals from really, really nice flowers. Amazing colour! Stop me before I get all metaphorical! Crikey do I remember now why I am crazy about Noro yarns!

I tried this jumper with other self-striping yarns. No contest. Silk garden brings the whole striping sequence to life, makes the main colour look smarter, richer and more sophisticated. I can afford 2 skeins of Silk Garden. I recommend no other!

HOWEVER. After wearing this a few times, what I would substitute is Rowan Pure Wool Aran. It doesn’t age well. I’m off superwash wools I think. They all pill.
………..

FINISHED! LOVE IT! It’s not blocked yet, but I can tell it’s going to be a favourite for a loooooooong time to come. Happy girl!

(16 April 2010- At Bletchley Park, a woman turned to her mate to call her attention on the jumper, apparently, so my groom says. How nice!)

Better pictures to follow, hopefully. Just couldn’t wait to post something up. ---7 August 2010-- Better photos arrived, but I shouldn’t have worn such a long t-shirt underneath -it bulges right where my love-handles are already bulging enough! Nuts!

What I did:

CO 78 stitches, ribbed for 5cm, started striping in Fibonacci sequence (1,2,3,5,8,13,21, repeat). First few stripes, 1 row too much in aubergine, wrong row counting, nuts (From 3rd stripe on sequence is correct.)

Decrease at bust 4 times every 4th row, then even to hips (try it on to see where), then increased 6 times every 5th row. Finish sequence, rib for 9 rows.

Sleeves: decrease every 8, then 12 rows to 44 stitches, rib 2x2 16 rows, BO.

I was going to do it the usual stripey way (every 7 or 8 rows, regularly) but there on the spot I changed my mind and decided to try it and see if that famous Fibonacci sequence pleased the eye just as I’ve read it did. What do you think? What I can tell is that the Fibonacci sequence just turned up to draw attention to the smaller portion of the waist, making me look slimmer. How nice! Gok would be pleased (UK only comment I’m afraid)
