Cast on in a contrast color and decided to go for the German twisted cast-on - and after checking several tutorials found that this one was fool proof enough for me 8) However (being of Norwegian origin and all) I really like this other tutorial that lets us know it‘s also known as Old Norwegian sock cast-on, as well as has other nice illustrations =)

At the beginning of row 5 and 6 I used the cabled cast-on as described here.

Found the super stretchy BO too lose (nr 3 in the following video) and went for the Islandic one instead, which is nr 2 explained in this video tutorial. I really liked the rounded edge it rendered - and I won the yarn chicken race!
