As I‘m a notoriously loose knitter I tried with my cubics to possibly tighten the gauge up a bit. So with the thread held double I got 13sts on 6mm needles and 13,5 sts on the 5,5mm. Since the pattern suggests going for a firm tension to get a sturdy fabric I went with the latter. This should give render 40cms of width to the pillow.

As my row gauge is less than the original (16rows / 22 = 0.72% -> 18 rows x 1.18 = 21 ) I‘m adding two more rounds to the lower stem part, and might have to keep in mind also for the rest of the tree to add a couple of rounds aproximately every 18 rows …

I decided to knit the back side in garter stitch, matching the edges, rather than purling to achieve a stockinette back that might not matter to anyone. I found nice wooden buttons at Butik Bolla‘s stand at Syfestivalen in Stockholm =)

I used the three needle bind-off for the top and bottom seems, so with hindsight I had better used a provisional cast-on.
Along the sides I used the mattress stitch, but managed to first sew on the button hole side behind the button side, when keeping the work inside out - so, be warned if you‘re as daft as me
As if that wasn‘t enough, I also made a blunder in choosing buttons with a hole so narrow that basically only a sewing thread fits through the hole. I tried splitting the yarn up and using only one of its threads for sewing, and hope it will hold up.
Last but not least, I‘m sure the result would have been at its best if I had given the case a nice bath but I ran out of time
