I wanted to make these really comfortable so that the kids would wear them without complaining.

I started the lion manes by making a top down hat (8 stitches and went to 88) and started casting off above the eyes at 6-1/2”. From there I did short rows over the ears .

I used Kali’s Lion Ears pattern , but modified it. I cast on 32 stitches, 16 stitches per side using the magic loop method (less finishing). I added a half inch of height since they needed to stick out of the mane.

With a crochet hook, I pulled yarn through the cap and knotted it and kept doing that all over.
