54 by 73 inches.. it is complete

January
Square 1 - Moody Blue is Pink
* for the last crossed treble, did it as crossed dc so that the squares are similar size.
Square 2 - Flower in Red & Pink
* rows 7-10 changed to dc instead of trc
Square 3 - Windows in Grey & Red
* last row is hdc
- The 12” squares for me end at almost 9.5”
- I am doing a surface slip stitch with any colour not used in the square.
- Trying for uniform last row stitch count -» 40sts before corner space for bigger square -» 20sts before corner space for the smaller square.

Realized that I am maybe making a 48-square afghan so have to double each month’s squares.. I hope to also double the smaller squares and use them as a border pattern.
To make it easier for me colourwise, I am just doing the opposite colours for the second square :-)

February
Square 1 - Kaleidoscope Blossom
Beautiful square - used up my first ball of pink.
It is smaller even with my 5mm hook, so modified row 15 to hdc instead of sc.

Square 2 for February - Window Box Granny
- I made two of them.
- on round 7, I ended with 18hdc per side ~ 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc for the corner & 14hdc side
- on round 8, corner = sc, ch2, sc then 18 side to equalize the round. I am glad they are same size as January squares
Square 3 - Marigold Mandala
I enjoyed it both times I made it.. and love that though it used all colours, each square is unique.

March
I loved the square “That One Sister”.. it also fits into my idea. I only did one square in the pattern. My only adjustment was joining the leaves in Round 11 & ending on Round 12 with sc to match the size of the rest.
I enjoyed the Picture Frame square though was colour challenged by the square. My first attempt was quickly frogged as the colours didn’t rhyme. Once I completed the first one though, changing colour for the second wasn’t too hard. I adjusted Rounds 13 &14 to have dc instead of sc as in the pattern. corners also modified for stitch count to be even.
For the Popcorn Puff, I modified Round 7 & added Round 8. both are sc rounds with corner worked as 2sc and 1sc respectively per round to have a similar stitch count of 20 per side

April
I have enjoyed the Key Lime Pie pattern. It was quite a challenge using my only colours, and I made the last round using hdc, with 3hdc before corner, ch2, 3hdc as my only modification.
The Filler square - Spiral Flower - was a big challenge.. getting the flower right, getting the square right..
I added 2 rounds of hdc with first round in the 3rd loop to get the right size and stitch number
I substituted the Twisted Braid square with one I saw on Pinterest.. I don’t know the name, but it was really quick and easy to make.

June
I enjoyed the Charming square very much. I added a second round of surface slip stitches for it to stand out, and for me to use all the colours :)

working two squares of Chocolate Delight was interesting and they worked out really fast.
In fact my challenge was getting the colours to cooperate
Shoofly Pie was fun to make - I enjoyed the round-by-round photos on the blog which made it easy to follow along.

The July main square C2: Shining Sea was a real challenge that needed keen attention every line. I discovered that bullions aren’t a favourite stitch and substituted with the bead stitch.
The filler square Moon Blossom was easier to handle.. modified it slightly by doing border sc pattern 4rounds followed by a dc round on wrong side. then an alternating fpdc, dc round to bring the count to 41dc per side. I finished off with an sc round in 3rd loop in contrasting colour..
The 6” Checks and Balances Square went so fast, I couldn’t believe I had done them in such a short time.. love the result

August
I was initially dismayed to see the bullion stitch in the 6” square choice.. then I found the best tutorial.. Bullion Stitch Tutorial using Tapestry needleand successfully completed Carousel
Unfortunately, it was bigger than the rest, so extended it to make it a normal sized square

The main square V’s and P’s Square was really interesting.. and has two looks in the centre - puffed or depressed :) I hope the depressed look stays as it shows more of the pattern.
I did two squares of the Simple 10-Petal Afghan Square - one with the alternative petal edging and the other with V-stitch as extensions.

September
For the Croco-Dahlia square, I enjoyed working on my two squares in assembly-fashion.. so could incorporate changes where needed. I stopped on Round 10 and modified it to sc instead of dc. I also made the corner as 1sc, ch 2, 1sc so as to maintain stitch count for the round as 20stitches per side.
I tacked down the petals made on Round 4 on Round 9 using the sc in sc instruction.. made them lie better.

Setember Star
For the main september square, I also worked in a kind of assembly fashion - every time I needed to change a colour, I worked on the other first.. this made it again, super quick to make the two squares. I worked the border as hdc so that I could add one more row of sc to match stitch count.. the one thing I did not like were the fpsc tog stitches though they make for pretty stitches, they are easy to pull out.

November
I have almost all the squares I will require.. so have been choosing the last few squares to go. I had skipped October squares but could not resist Winter Wildflowers - it is a beautiful square.. a little complicated at the beginning, but lots of help in the group.
30.11.2017
Change of plan… I actually did the October Filler Cheerful Echinacea. I enjoyed working it following the colour guide.
modifications to the last 2 rounds,
Round 1- I did two fphdc, miss one and corner 2hdc ch.3, 2hdc
Round 2- I worked it as tc, bpsc through the tc to mimic the middle nupps

December Main Square
I loved the story of D’Oyley aka doilies.. and enjoyed making the square. Although I got a little stuck with the banded dc stitch, I received much assistance to complete it. I love it.

November Filler
Ilmatar was such an interesting pattern. I love all the details and guidance on color change. The only thing was mine was smaller so added an extra round of 3-dc-tog and one of sc to complete it.
December 6” Square
The Winter Bliss also were a speedy crochet and a beautiful result. I did two in contrasting colours.
All 16 of my 6” squares are complete
09.12.2017
for my last square, I did Mattie’s Flower which came out beautifully. I changed round 13-15 to make it the same size as the rest.
- 13 - changed to sc, ch1 with 2hdc ch2 2hdc at corner
- 14 - did hdc, ch1 enclosing previous row’s ch1. At corner, did sc, bpdc to previous round, sc
- 15 - worked 2sc in every ch, sc in last hdc, 3 sc. In corner dc, worked sc ch2 sc, then 4sc, sc in hdc
All 31 of my 12” squares are complete

09.12.2017
for my 6” squares, joined them to make four squares. I also made a border for uniformity

Join:
I decided to finally learn the flat braid join - and chose to join in black :) good choice to hide any mistakes and help in the learning process.
Border:
I was inspired by this pattern Border Patterned Blanket although I used a common ripple crochet stitch with a straightening round.
- I then did an sc, ch1 sk 1 round
- dc enclosing the previous round’s ch1 , ch1
- sc in every st and space
- fpdc, sc through fpdc (like a crossed st) all around with 3sc as corner
