Notes

A prime number is a number greater than 1 that is divisible only by itself and 1. For as long as we have known about prime numbers, humans have been trying to find patterns in how they occur, but there is no formula for generating the prime numbers!

This scarf shows all of the 62 prime numbers between 1 and 300. It is a lovely way of visualizing the primes and helps to showcase many of the tantalizing patterns within even this small sample.

In the scarf, two rows of crochet represents a number (the naturally occurring ridges in the crochet make double rows easier to count than single rows). So, in order to represent 300 numbers, the scarf is 600 rows long. The scarf is 13.5cm (24 stitches) wide and 282cm long. (I couldn’t fit the whole scarf into the photo!)
