Gauge is off with 23 sts and 43 rows. Will work pattern as written for size 3 (36 3/4”) aiming for a slightly larger size - 38/39”.

Definitely will need to close up the neckline even after starting with the smallest size because I need less than 9” neck opening to keep any sweater from falling off my shoulders. Decided to cast on less sts and add an additional increase row after the short rows - see below.

Used a crochet provisional cast on in order to more easily pick up the stitches for ribbing later. Cast on 120 sts and will work an extra set of short rows by using 8 sts between sts instead of 10. Increase to size 3 at final short row before the 4 even knit rows. Then, continue on with pattern as written for size 3.

Because of difference in row gauge and also because I wanted a longer length overall, I added extra slip stitch patterns before final bind off. I also doubled the rows for the neckband to increase the height and close up the neckline even further.
