This time I really wanted to do the original pattern! But halfway through I had to face reality and admit I wouldn’t have enough yarn to finish. So I decided to improvise a round yoke with colourwork instead, knitting back and forth obviously because that’s how I had started the cardigan

I’ve had the Whales pattern in my faves forever but it’s not available anymore. So I recreated a chart of the colourwork from some of the photos and adapted a bit to fit with my requirements. Also had to readjust multiple times throughout to account for my remaining yarn amounts Also added some short rows in the upper back after the colourwork for shaping.

Knit notes

Tubular co 146sts on 3.5mm.
14r 2x2 rib qafter tubular setup.
Switch to 4mm, 60r straight.

Sleeve: co 36sts, 7r 1x1 rib after tubular setup.
7r straight on 4mm, after this inc ev 5r to 64sts, 10r straight.

Pick up all parts onto same needle = row -3 of chart.
Sleeve raglan decs on r -1 » 274 > 270sts.
Dec row on r1 of chart: [k3, k2tog] » 270 > 216.
Dec row on r26 of chart: [k2, k2tog] » 216 > 164.
Dec row on r34 of chart, 2sts dec over ev 5 sts of grey: [k1, k2tog] » 164 > 110.

4 short rows in grey section after colourwork to raise back.
10r or so of 1x1 ribbing for neck, tubular bo.

Button band: pick up 96sts, 2x2 rib 6r, (normal) bo.
