Experimenting with double-knit pockets while knitting an object in the round. Toe-up socks have a double sole (the “pocket’) and the small iPod bag has an interior hidden pocket that is double knit in the same fashion. Great Lucy Neatby double knitting course on Craftsy! - which became bluprint and then went to tutorial heaven in 2020.

Breakdown on the double knit rounds -
st st on the inside, creates a pocket that can be stuffed if it’s for a sole: (T = turn, ° = knit to end of round)
1) RS *sl1YB, P1* T
2) WS *sl1YB, P1* T
3) RS *sl1YB, P1* °
4) RS *k1, sl1YF* °

rev st st on inside, no pocket; stitches are interlocked (because the yarn isn’t moving front-to-back but is staying at the same side throughout one row or round):
1) RS *sl1YB, K1* T
2) WS *sl1YF, P1* T
3) RS *sl1YB, K1* °
4) RS *k1, sl1YB* °
This version would make a good, sturdy heel, I think.

Sock, e.g. #5 R.H., MC/O 32 tot.
Germ S.R. With 5/end, then double sole of choice on 16 sts, etc. I’m thinking leave 1-2 sts each side of sole to see if less gap between sole and instep sts.

The pure white sock, I used the above sock pattern, but first 8 dblknit = closed, remainder = open. Experimenting.

A sample with full instructions for the doubled sole.
