Notes

Clue One

Mesh (I)

Plucky bello old money: 25g
Wollmeise Mistelzweig: 25g

Started on 8s with a cable cast on. Cable was too tight and I didn’t love the fabric. Ripped and used a 6 with long tail cast on.

Only got 45 repeats out of the wollmeise, so I’ll add an extra stitch every 8 rows when picking up for the second half of this clue.

Gradient (II)

Picking the colors for this gradient has been a really interesting journey thus far! Right now I’m settled on a subtle gradient.

Saw a tip on the forums to one row with new colors and one final row in old colors when switching. Tried this and it wasn’t worth weaving in all the extra ends to me.

  • First stripe (22 rows): Wollmeise Schwafel (lace) [8g] and Plucky Bello Old Money (fingering) [8g]
  • Second stripe (23 rows): Woolmeise Schwafel (lace) [8g] and KPM 1239 [9g]
  • Third stripe (24 rows): KPM 1239 [10g] and Frolicking Feet mini brite green [9.5g]
  • Fourth stripe (25 rows): Frolicking Feet mini brite green [10g] and Wollmeise Zarte Knospe [11g]
  • Fifth stripe (25 rows): Wollemeise Zarte Knospe [10g] and Frolicking Feet mini dark yellow [9g]

Clue Two

Brioche (III)

Steady marl with Plucky Bello in Old Money (start: 68g) and Frolicking Feet mini yellows.

  • First 34 rows used up remaining 9g of dark yellow Frolicking Feet and 13g Plucky Bello.
  • Rest of brioche section used 11g light yellow Frolicking Feet and 27g plucky bello.

Garter (IV)

Standard marl with Plucky Bello Old Money (18g used) and Plucky Traveler Sport in a gorgeous golden one hit wonder (18g used)

Clue Three

Garter (V)

Standard marl with 16g Plucky Bello Old Money (22g start, 6g left) and 15g KPM 4005 (49g start)

Don’t like double yarn overs, so I am picking up an extra stitch at the center of the mesh diamond and doing a m1R, k1, M1L for the center increases on right side rows in this section. Purling center stitch on wrong side rows.

Seed Stitch (VI)

I want this section to have a large triangle of dark blue/black and dark green/black at the end, sort of to mimic the brioche on the left side. The leading stripes will be 20 rows long, in a faded marl.

  • first stripe: 10g KPM 4005 (34g to start, 24 remain) and 9.5g KPM 1239 (30g to start, 20.5 left)
  • second stripe: 9 KPM 1239 (20.5 start, 11.5 remain) and 9g Frolicking Feet Maine Marsh Mini (24 to start, 15g remain)
  • third stripe: 7g Frolicking Feet Maine Marsh mini (15 to start, 8g remain) and 7g Plucky Single Small Batch #7 (112g to start)
  • fourth stripe: 7g Plucky Single Small Batch #7 (105 start, 98 remain) and 7g Plucky Primo Fingering Scalloway (92g start, 85g remain)
  • fifth stripe: 4.5g Plucky Primo Fingering Scalloway (85g start, 80.5g remain) and 3.5g DyeForWool a dark storm is coming (29g remain, 32.5g start)
  • sixth stripe: 3.5g DyeForWool a dark storm is coming (29g start, 27.5 remain) and 2.5g Freia Oro Azteca (76.5g start, 74 remain)
  • seventh stripe: 2g Freia Ozo Azteca (74g to start, 72g remain) and 2g DyeForWool black hole (2.7g start, .8g remain)

Clue Four

Doing a steady marl with a Freia gradient yarn in Ozo Azteca (72g start) and a lace weight mohair Shibui Cloud in field (24g start). The shawl is already very heavy but I can’t resist adding these sections!!

Wing 1 (VII)

Used 34.3g Freia Ozo Azteca (37.7g remain) and 8.8g Shibui Cloud (15.2 remain).

Wing 2 (VIII)

24.7 Freia Ozo Azteca used (13g remain) and 8.6g Shubui Cloud (6.6g remain).

I-cord border

Bottom border in Plucky Primo Fingers Old Money (100g start) and Shubui Cloud, top border in Freia Ozo Azteca (13g start) and Shubui Cloud (6.6g start).

Binding off ~740 stitches in icord is quite the lengthy process. I’ve got 3.3g of the Shubui Cloud left with 330 stitches remaining, so I should have enough of it to complete the border. Only 3g of the Freia remain at this point, so I’ll soon switch to the KPM 4005, which is very similar looking to the middle of the Freia gradient.

Knit the side and top before running out of the Freia (.7g left!) and started the KPM 4005 (24g to start).
