Third time’s a charm. Blocked to 72” on top and 36” deep, a bit bigger than called for in the pattern.
I was very close to finishing with two skeins. Going down a needle size for the end garter and bind-off would have probably solved this. The triangle shawl calculator was spot on for most of the knit.
Gorgeous, straightforward, and fun knit! I’ve compiled a bunch of useful links below to help myself and others, especially those new to lace/shawl knitting:

Triangle shawl calculator
This calculator will tell you how many rows you can complete with the yardage you have left. Works after you’ve knit up at least 20% of the yarn.
Keeping yarn overs even
comment by designer in Ruxton thread about keeping YOs even
Next time I want to try a one stitch spine with m1’s for the spine increases. I don’t like the minor variability of size in the spine yarn-overs, which is a result of the k2tog and ssk that occur right before a yarn-over every first and third row in chart 2.

Remember to end every chart or chart repeat with an even/wrong side row!

So excited to be making a third Ruxton. It’s so much easier the third time around!
Got the yarn off of destash from dlbknitterplus.
I’m considering doing an extra repeat of the second chart - we’ll see how much yarn I have left after doing five repeats as called for in the pattern.

It’s ZIPPING along this time - I’ve got the pattern nearly memorized by now!
I named it La Vache because the color of the yarn is “milk maid,” and “la vache” means cow in French. I’ve been collecting these vintage mugs and just added the La vache mug to my set, so it seemed like a good name for this shawl. :)

Just finished the first row of chart four, the garter border between the two lace designs! Hooray!

Grrrr… was really sick when I worked on Chart 3 and 4, and missed that the last row of Chart 3 is actually a knit row that starts off the garter ridge separating the two lace patterns.
I’ve got exactly enough yarn to make this pattern as written according to the Triangle Shawl calculator (and I’m worried that I’ll already be playing yarn chicken with the picot bind-off!) so I can’t just add another garter row. I’m torn between ripping out Chart 4, which I finished last night, or just leaving two rows of garter rather than the three the pattern calls for. I like the symmetry with the border and spine with three rows of garter, but I also am afraid that if I start ripping that I’ll lose a stitch or something and the whole thing will be borked. >:(

Decided to rip out chart four. I put in a post hoc lifeline using an embroidery needle at row 7 of chart 3, and then I ripped back and picked those stitches up. Just finished knitting through row 4 of chart 4 as intended, and it’s like it never happened!

Yes! Chart five done today. I have used 132 grams of yarn and have 78 remaining. I’ve knit 130 rows so far.
The triangle shawl calculator indicates that I can get 165 rows out of this yarn. The shawl has 162. This should hopefully leave me with enough for the picot bind off (the calculator leaves room for a stretchy cast off, three rows of yarn).
I’ve been looking to try to see how many approximate rows a picot consumes, but haven’t figured it out so far.

Now the shawl calculator is saying I can get 168 rows - that should be plenty for the bindoff!
I finished chart six today, and have a little over 25% of my yarn remaining (55 grams). I am so excited to start chart seven; I love the little yarn over mesh triangles so much. I’m also itching to have this finished before i go down to North Carolina in a few weeks.

On row 13 (last patterning row) of chart seven, and I am not sure whether I will have enough yarn for the bind off. I’ve got 27 grams left. I’m going to weigh rows 14 and 15 and decide whether to limit the final garter ridge, or to space the picots out more, or what. I would like to save about eight rows worth for the picot bind off for insurance. I think it should take about six, so even seven would be good.

Just finished Row 13, and have 24.5 grams left. Now I will start weighing every row to see if I think I have enough for the bind off.
May 8, 2016
Start row 14: 24.5g
End row 14: 22g
Hmm… looks like I won’t have enough yarn. I’m going to put out an ISO, but I might need to modify the garter edge before the picots a bit to compensate if I can’t find someone willing to part with 15 or 20 grams!
May 9, 2016
Row 15: 19.8 grams total, used 2.2g for row.

Lucky me - I was able to find a very generous Ravelrer, MomLovesYarn, who was willing to send me 20 grams of Traveler Sport in Milk Maid to finish this off. It looks like I am going to end up with just a few yards left, so I was (for once) on the high end of the yardage called for in the pattern. I had 640 yards on hand, and I am going to end up using about 655 (I’ll measure when I’m done to be exact).
