Notes

Cast on 137 for bulky yarn.
I get 3.5st/in on US 10, making the width about 39” before blocking, perfect for a throw.
After blocking the WIP, still 3.5 st/in but 4 rows/in.
34” long turned into 38”, so I can gauge how long to knit for my goal of 60”.

2 skeins took me to 40”, and a generous gift of one extra skein will now take it to 60.

Using interchangeable needles, 32” cables, with caps at the ends so they become straight needles but still relieve the weight of the project like circulars.

I am NOT slipping the first stitch of each row. Garter stitch creates a nice neat edge without that, and I find the chain edge created by slipping stitches looks a bit loose.

Tips:

  1. I edited the pattern to shorten the instructions so it’s easier to read. Turns out to be easy to read the stitches and not have to follow the printed pattern once you see the pattern shaping up, even in the center section triangle pattern.

  2. In the center section, the even numbered rows are just knitting the knits and purling the purls (between the markers). I use a safety pin marker to mark that side of the work. Or you can tell by where your yarn tail is.

  3. In the center section, the 1st row of every 8-row triangle row 1 and 9) is always just knitting the purls and purling the knits.

The yarn:
This is my first experience with Cascade Eco. It’s not super soft to knit with, but it’s not itchy either, just a more “rustic” experience than I’m used to, which I’m actually very much enjoying. It has a pleasant springiness and loft. I expect the blanket to be relatively lightweight.

Blocking halfway through- helps this yarn tremendously. It relaxed the stitches, evened out the checkerboard pattern and brought out the triangle stitch pattern. Blocking didn’t add much to the length, though, just a few inches.
