Notes

Yarn: This is the softest yarn I’ve ever experienced. It’s very slippery to work with, and also very sticky and tends to fray a lot, so you have to handle it carefully. But the sheen and colorways are gorgeous. I’m not sure how well this will wear.. it seems that pilling is inevitable, and I intend to wear it lightly.

Gauge: I would have had to go way down on needle size to get gauge, and prefer to work with a larger needle, so I compromised with US4. The density of the stitches look right, so it’s all good.

Needles: I’m using interchangeables with each needle on its own 24” cable with an end cap. That way the work lies flat and it’s easier to work with than when the work is all curved around on one cable. I do this with blankets and anything that’s a wide rectangular shape, works great.

Border section: My first experience beading, the border was quite fiddly, but worth the effort. Next time I would do that section with a larger needle so it doesn’t pull in.

The Seafoam Stripes section requires a bit of attention, as the stitches on the needle very easily stick to one another, so after dropping a YO, the next two stitches are sometimes hiding under each other, and I have to just tug a bit on the dropped stitch to bring the next stitch into position to work it. Also make sure on the row where you drop the yo’s, that the knit stitches are snug and not loose like the dropped yo is.

Light spray blocking as I go along, really helps to have the fabric lie more flat, even out the stitches and see the beautiful pattern better. I work half of a row so the stitches are distributed evenly on each needle, then lay the work flat, spray and pat into shape.

Beading: The 1mm hook is working well, still fits the 6/0 beads and is large enough to grab the yarn without splitting. I’m putting 3 beads on the crochet hook at once, easy enough to work each individually without having to go back for more each time. Also I’m holding onto the crochet hook while knitting the next stitches. Every little bit of streamlining the process helps. It’s still slow going, but hey, the yarn is like cotton candy, or a kitten, either one.. it’s ok to go slowly.

I’m using the Dynamites matte beads. They barely show up at all, and I would have liked to see slightly more color from them. But they do make a difference, especially lightening up the dark yarn colorways a bit. Very nice touch.

Fringe
I had a tough time unraveling the fringe on the first section, because this yarn is so sticky. Maybe it would work to unravel it immediately after knitting that section, and then pin that section up somehow while knitting so the fringe doesn’t get damaged. On the last section, unraveling the fringe right away made it easier.

Miles of Kitchener stitch! I will never forget how to do it now!

The wrap came out huge for me on my small frame, more like a shlanket. 32”x59”. It only needed a light spray blocking to open up the pattern, which I was doing as I went along anyway, plus to straighten out the fringe a bit.

My final review - it s a gorgeous piece. But with this yarn, and such an open fabric, it has to be handled very delicately and probably won’t get a lot of wear.
