I have decided these socks want to live with Nadine. They will be easy care for her. She turned 50 in December and I’ve been working on 5 pairs of socks for her to extend the celebration. She loves handmade socks and I like making them. Win. Win. :)
Nadine gave me the leetle orange “Seed of Happiness” that grins in the top two photos.
Drop Dead Simple Sock Project to take to Nashville…
Project #23 for this pattern.
Toe Up to 70 sts
Using my own toe and heel preferences:
Gusset Toe and 6-Stitch Mini-Gusset/Flap
12 rounds of 2X2 ribbing for cuff (because it seems quicker to work!)
Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off
25 g gets me just above the heel.
This yarn is Okay, but it’s not like classic Regia sock yarns which I prefer. It is more loosely spun and even knitted with 2 mm needles seems to knit up at a slightly looser gauge than other Regia yarns I’ve used. I doubt I would use it again for adult socks, but for kids knitting, this would be a grand slam.
I think this pattern works best knitted in lighter colorways without high contrast. “Merely a suggestion…” :)
Estonian Button Stitch
Take the Right Hand Needle across the front of the next two stitches and insert it between the second and third stitch on the Left Hand Needle. Yo and knit up a new stitch from that position but do not remove the two stitches from the LHN.
Insert the RHN into the gap between the two needles, yo and pull a loop through the new st which remained on the RHN. This will wrap the first stitch around the two LHN stitches and leave a new loop on the right hand needle.
Slip the two wrapped stitches from the LHN to the RHN and pass the new loop over them, further wrapping those stitches. Leave them on the RH needle as slipped stitches and continue knitting.
