I’m using my WYS Gems 100% wensleydale in the colour ‘cobalt’ for this shawl, even though the yarn is DK weight (and not fingering)! I have struggled a bit with what to do with this yarn since my original project idea fell through. I’ve always wanted to knit one of Kate Davies’ patterns and doing so in a British 100% wool yarn in a beautiful deep and lustrous blue feels just about right.

Swatched with US 5 / 3.75mm needles and after blocking got 24 garter ridges / 48 rows & 20-21 stitches in 10 cm. Swatched again with US 6 / 4.0mm needles and after blocking got 22 garter ridges / 44 rows & 17-18 stitches in 10cm. Pattern calls for 34 rows & 14 stitches in 10 cm after blocking. Figure I can stretch block the shawl to proper dimensions and gauge once complete. Will report back!

Modifications because I have less yardage than required:

• Knitted 21 points instead of 24 in the lace panel
• Picked up 70 stitches from centre of lace panel
• Knitted garter pup1 on each side until I had 142 stitches on my needles
• Knitted garter pup2 on each side until I picked up all stitches of the lace panel (213 stitches -- odd number because I had to pup3 at the very end to make it work)

This pattern worked out beautifully in a DK weight. Have done a first gentle block although without my blocking mats it’s going to be tough to properly stretch it, but I love it just as it is anyway.
