Size 1, all knitted to pattern.
I would normally make a size 2, but I know that this yarn shrinks slightly when blocked, but then stretches in width with wear…and stays like that with subsequent washing.
It’s just the way linen behaves…
My gauge swatch was slightly out before blocking at 19sts, but after blocking, was 20 sts.
Assuming that the yarn will stretch with wear , I should end up with more like a size 2…
Measurements before blocking:
Bust, 44”
Length (from top of shoulder, next to the neck ribbing), 22”
Inside sleeve, 18”
Measurements after blocking:
Bust, 44”
Length (from top of shoulder, next to the neck ribbing), 23”
Inside sleeve, 18”
It fits perfectly just as it is, so I’m going to give it a spray mist with plain water in a plant misting spray instead of a full soak, and see if I can pin it at that size, without it shrinking.
Well that worked…apart from the extra 1” in the body, which I could’ve done without. I guess that the first wash might sort that out, as I’m expecting it to shrink a bit.

Total weight, without the buttons, 244g, 847m.
This pattern is just perfect, I especially love the fit on the shoulders and the double knitted button bands.
It’s not quite the plain cardigan that it looks…the shape, fit, and the small details make it quite special.
It’s supposed to be roomy, but with such perfectly fitting shoulders, it really doesn’t look big.
The button bands are such fun to knit, and Anke has provided some really helpful videos. It’s not difficult at all, but it really helps to see someone actually showing the techniques, rather than just reading the pattern.
Definitely a classic pattern, thank you, Anke…I’m so in love!
