This is a fantastic pattern! The 6 increases on every round in 1x1 rib makes a nice flat crown. It is rather slow to knit an entire hat in 1x1 ribbing, but it’s worth it for the incredible s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-e-s-s!!

I stopped increasing at 84 stitches. In bulky yarn, that should be big enough to fit my friend’s giant head!

My hat used exactly 1 skein of knitpicks WotA Bulky on size 8 needles. I just kept knitting until I had only a few yards left before the bind-off. The finished hat fits my tiny 21-inch head, and my brother-in-law’s enormous 26-inch head equally well.

I started with a TKIO loop, from the techknitter: http://techknitting.blogspot.com/2007/03/tkio-cute-way-to...

I used the tubular cast-off so my hat has a tidy, stretchy-but-not-flared edge. http://techknitting.blogspot.com/2008/01/tubular-cast-off... (I was running out of yarn so I only did 2 foundation rounds instead of 4)
