Notes

Instead of lively colors, I chose cool, serene, and muted color combinations. The theme is “tranquility”.

YARN COLOR:
Color A (neutral color) - Silver Fox
Color B (darker than A) - Moon River
Color C (dramatic) - Mirth

CO!! It is Thursday night here in the U.S., but the first clue arrived! The clue started with i-cord♪
https://youtu.be/8YTvU5jxG34

11.06.15 -
Reached wedge-10, and seven more to go! I already like how it looks, both design and colors.
Using a marker to turn 5 sts before the last turn that saves my time. (I move/place the marker when I am knitting WS.)

11.13.15 -
Clue 2 arrived around 9pm, and I finish clue 1 around 10pm! Although I have to go work tomorrow, how could I sleep without start knitting clue 2!!
And, there are cables, cables, cables! I was not completely sure the structure, so I inserted a lifeline before starting clue 2, just in case… you know.
As a cable gets wider, it gets tighter and hard to knit. I used an extra needle to knit the crossed stitches, instead of knitting with one needle from the beginning to the end of the row.
I also placed a marker, after the first slip stitch on RS. That is the place you stop knitting on WS, do SSK right after the marker.

11.15.15 -
Clue 2 is done! I can’t wait adding color C, but it is impossible to imagine what clue 3 would be like!

11.20.15 -
Clue 3 has lots of stitches to knit besides picking up stitches!! I picked stitches and knit three rows. I didn’t like how stitches are picked at the edge and the connecting part of color A & B. I gave it a thought a while and decided to frog and re-start clue 3.
Before I start picking stitches again, I spray-blocked the connecting part of color A & B and smoothed out stitches. It helped picking up stitches nicely. When you pick three stitches from i-cord edge, make sure to pick the first of three stitches from the back side. I did an opposite order at first that was my mistake.

11.26.15 -
After giving some thoughts, I decided to add wedge 4. However, my yarn ran out at its row 18. It is not a bad place to have my yarn ran out, I suppose. Since I inserted a lifeline at the end of wedge 3, I will decided what to do after receiving clue 4. I probably switch the yarn to color B from the row 18 instead of the next section. It is sad that I really loved my color C, Mirth, in this shawl…

11.27.15 -
Obviously there is not enough color C, so I frogged down to have it three wedges for section 3. I wanted to accentuate the edge and picot clusters with color A (silverfox). I decided to add row 1 and 18 of wedge 4, section 3, with color A, and then moved on to section 4, using color B and C.

11.29.15 -
Finished! it was such a long, long i-cord binding, and it killed my hands!! It is already at night, and I am afraid of color bleeding when I submerge it in water. I just shape it a bit with spray blocking to take pictures for now. I’ll block it tomorrow (or later this week).

After thoughs:

This was my first time to participate Stephen’s Mystery KAL. Color selection was fun, and knitting volume for every week was high to me. It was really exciting and enjoyable experience. The next time I do MKAL, I really should make sure to have lots of free time on my daily schedule.

The doodler’s design was very interesting. I didn’t have much confidence in my color selection skill, so I chose safer colors. I now am interested in making it with more fun, bright colors. No wonder many participants knit more than one. Regarding the edge option, I am still not sure if I like picot cluster (sorry, Stephen!). If I am going to make it with bright colors the next time, I may choose option 2. Picot clusters are nice accents for neutral colors, like mine, I suppose.
