Currently swatching. I made this Penny Straker Eye of the Partridge sweater circa 1983 for my sister, from a rustic true worsted 100% wool. It was very heavy due to the use of Eye of Partridge stitch, which with all of the carries, doubles the weight of the wool. So I looked for a lighter worsted/DK at good price point. I ended up with the Euro Baby Babe 100. It’s a nice, soft acrylic, but intensive swatching has shown it to be just a bit flabby at the pattern’s native gauge with the recommended needle size.
So, since this is a very simple design - simple raglan - I will recalc for my achieved gauge of 6 spi on US #7s.

A very large oversize pullover has been requested, so I am working the largest size (I may shorten the sleeves when I get to them), recalculated for my smaller gauge. So far, so good. I am liking the yarn - it’s very soft and easy to work with, not at all like the scratchy plastic feel acrylics I’ve used before.

No matter what I did I couldn’t get the sleeve decrease ratios to match with those of the completed front and back, so I totally frogged this piece, reswatched for a smaller needle/tighter gauge, drafted up an original design for a look-alike, but knit top down in the round, and restarted. Nothing is left of the original design other than use of partridge stitch in two colors. So far, so good. I’m almost at the point where I split the thing into three tubes for the body and sleeves.

Done with the body part. All I need to do on that now is a tubular cast-off to match the tubular cast-on at the neck edge. Then on to the sleeves. I might try to do them side by side on two circs, to avoid the risk of mismatched length/shape.
