Alternating cable cast on, 250 stitches (give or take two), skipping the garter stitch border. (I tried it first and frogged after seeing other people’s pictures.)

Made myself a page with the charts in order. Looks like I only cable on rows 3 and 7 of 8. Not bad!

Skipped garter rows after ribbing as well and increased six stitches into cables on first row of pattern.

Switching the beginning stitch of moss stitch in the middle of a panel was awkward so early on I moved the de facto start of round to after the moss stitch panel.
I’m very pleased with how easy this pattern is to memorize.

Increase stitches every 8cm in moss stitch on odd rows to blend better.

I want to make another sweater with just a cabled front and a smaller honeycomb panel. My honeycomb panel measures 7” and the three cables on each side measure 4”. For kid sweaters I’m thinking 3” of honeycomb panel with cables to each side as written, stockinette for the rest.

Three skeins in.

After separating front and back, ending on a row 3, I worked 35 rows on back (including cast off row, a row 7), then 29 on front (including cast off row for neck, casting off on a row 1), then I’ll work six more rows on the shoulders, casting off on a row 7.

Cast off 6 stitches at mid sleeve after nearly completing row 4 after the 15th antler cable cross. To CO 6 stitches evenly, CO 2 stitches before marker and 4 after.

6 skeins in, about 7” up second sleeve.

7 skeins in, almost done with 2nd sleeve!

Finished! It took about 7.5 skeins. It’s drying flat now and measures 100cm around at bust (39”), not the 108cm that would be expected for a size medium. The size is great for me, though!

If I make this again I’ll just include all the body stitches from the start instead of increasing as I go.
