mindless knitting, something to take along wherever i go without having to bring a pattern, stitch markers, row counter and so on… this will be relaxing!

i have 129 stitches right now. not far from the recommended 171 or 186 or even 201 stitches.
even 201 will be smaller than i want it to be. so i’m thinking about making 231 or 291 stitches (which is where the increasing 4 stitches per row and the 15 stitches for another pattern repeat “meet” without me having to decrease one or more stitches on the back row).
i don’t know if this is intelligible…
maybe this makes it clearer:
on the left: increase 4 stitches per row
on the right: increase 15 stitches because of the pattern repeat.

231 and 291 are the stitch counts that are in both rows.
(12 RS rows add 4 full pattern repeats.)
(if anyone wants to help me rephrase this so it will be understandable for everyone, i would appreciate it! :) )
the bump on the top bothers me a lot. this is why i always hesitated knitting a cresent-shaped shawl… i hope it will be gone after blocking.

at 183 stitches.
i feel this is going very quick. :)
i decided to do the 231 stitches. that will be enough. :)

223 stitches. 4 rows to gow before i start the pattern.
i want to add beads, have to decide where to put them.
i thought this would go faster… i had knitted back 6 rows the other day because my stitch count didn’t seem to be correct.
only to find out that everything was fine and i made a mistake while counting! (because somehow after knitting back i had more stitches than before… lol) :’(

7 rows into the pattern.
it’s so much fun to follow a pattern even on the wrong side! not just the boring purling that you usually do on the back rows… :)

row 22 of the pattern. 12 more rows and bind off.
don’t know if i’ll finish tomorrow, depends on how much time i’ll have for knitting. but it will get done before the weekend, that’s sure.
the red crosses in the pattern show where i’ve put the beads. i like that they’re not too many. :)

off the needles.
i was soooo happy with all of it: the yarn, the colour, the beads, the shape.
but after the bind-off i’m really afraid if it will block to the right shape. it seems impossible… :( it really has kind of a triangular shape :(
it will need really agressive blocking…
i would be very unhappy if it doesn’t block the way it should…
i wish i had seen the modifications by agnewkat before (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/agnewkat/ginkgo-crescent-2). everyone who used her modifications has a beautifully shaped shawl…
maybe the pattern should be updated… :/

the bump is blocked out more or less, but the shawl tends to roll on that part. and because of the bump i had to block the center part really hard, which means that the edging doesn’t look very nice on that part.
all of this causes the shawl not to drape very well. :(
it’s such a bummer, i loved the colour and the pattern and was so looking forward to knitting this.
i have more of this yarn, so maybe i’ll knit another one…
i don’t know if i should frog this one… :(
also i would recommend knitting the pattern with a bigger needle size.
