Notes

I made these to match some lined mittens that I recently knit for my aunt, Dottie:

http://www.ravelry.com/projects/kimmyz/fried-chicken-mittens

These slippers are the same as the larger (men’s size) that I just finished for Denny, only this pair is for my 98-year-old auntie who has much smaller feet. For this reason, I made a few adjustments - mainly in the needle sizes used:

Outside - Size 6 US
Lining - Size 5 US
Ribbed Cuff - Size 4 US
Cuff bind-off round - Size 8 US (to keep it loose)

Another difference is that I used my own heart design on the top, rather than the cable charts A.2 and A.a in the pattern. My heart chart is shown in the picture at left. Hearts were done in knit stitches, while the background is all purl stitches. (Kind of hard to see in the photos.) To make the design centered, I cast on 5 stitches instead of 4 when it came to the instep part where you join to knit in the round. This one extra stitch won’t really affect the fit of the slippers, but if you have narrow feet, cast on only 3 stitches rather than 5. (And then eliminate one column of stitches on either side of my heart chart.) All other parts of the slipper were knit as per the pattern instructions, although I did start decreasing for the toe a bit earlier for these slippers - on row 21 of my heart chart. Add your own design to the top for a creative variation.

Please read my more extensive notes on knitting these slippers here:

I created a diagram showing the construction of these slippers. (See 6th photo at left.)

For the cuffs on these smaller slippers, I followed the directions for the large size cuffs, because Dottie didn’t want anything that fit tight around her ankles. So I picked up 54 sts for the cuff, increasing to 64 sts on the first round.

These lined slippers are reversible, but the only way to wear them is with the Bunny Soft yarn next to your skin. Heavenly! There is no softer yarn in the world.

I sprayed the soles lightly with a flexible rubber coating to assure that there would be no slipping on smooth surfaces. See recommended sprays in photos at left.

I took my time knitting these slippers during commute hours over the past week. However, I finished the first (larger pair) in only 3 days.
