Notes

This is my first test for Jennifer Weissman (Shadystroll on Ravelry) who designs the most exquisite shawls, scaves and cowls. Her sweater designs are very impressive too.

This is one of the best written patterns I’ve ever seen. Jennirer includes line-by-line written instructions as well as all charts necessary to complete this gem. So you can choose whatever method you prefer to knit this versatile accessory piece.

The short rows are super simple to do because you don’t have to pick up any wraps. Just knit the wrapped stitches on the final full row(s).

Most of the shawlette is constructed by alternating 2x2 ribbing with garter stitch. The ribbed panels have cables at regular intervals. I highly recommend using a yarn with good drape. The yarn I used has excellent stitch definition. You could even use a sport weight yarn which would result in a narrower shawlette that you can easily lengthen by adding an extra short row repeat. I love how this turned out. It will be very warm and stylish to wear in the winter.

There are lots of ways to wear this because you can insert the narrow ends into the middle of any of the large cables. It’s such a clever and beautiful design.

Weight of finished shawlette: 9 oz.

The pullover I’m wearing in the photo is my Zaftig Tee designed by Sheila Toy Stromberg.

kimmyz's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Beautiful, sophisticated colors suitable for any sex
  2. Tweedy look, chain construction, great stitch definition
  3. Machine wash and dry. However, if throwing this into a warm dryer, expect the sweater to shrink 2 - 3 inches in length, but only 1 inch in width.
