Notes

Stephanie Lotven is a designer with a flare for color. She has some of the cutest patterns available for babies, kids and adults. This is a super quick design using a fun, easy and unusual stitch. The design employs two contrasting colors, but you only knit with one color on any given round, alternating colors every 4 rounds. (No need to cut yarn in between color changes.) The pattern is extremely well written and tested. The pattern sample used one strand of Malabrigo Rasta (super bulky), but I held 2 or 3 strands together to get the required super bulky weight as follows:

MC (grays) - 1 strand of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes held together with 1 strand of CaMaRose Snefnug (fluffy, “blown” yarn)

CC (purples) - 1 strand of Holst Garn Supersoft held together with 2 strands of Mayflower New Sky Light. (Note that the New Sky LIght is a fluffy yarn, but quite fine. It’s almost like knitting with stretchy elastic which is why I used the 1 strand of Supersoft which has no stretch.)

What I did differently:

I followed the instructions for the largest size exactly. The only change I made was to repeat rounds 1 - 4 FOUR additional times instead of the TWO additional times mentioned in the pattern. (I have a very large head.) I also used a larger needle to achieve gauge for the body of the hat.

Any cast-on may be used for this hat. I did a tubular cast-on.

Needles used:

Size 11 US Addi - Ribbing

Size 15 US Addi - Remainder of hat

The sweater I’m wearing in the photos is my “Climb Every Mountain Pullover” designed by Heidi Kirrmaier.
