Notes

Another fun design by Vicky Chan. I’m knitting this cute doggie pullover for my niece who is allergic to animal fibers.

My dominant color in this design is the dark “Moss” color, so I held this in my left hand. I always hold the dominant color in my left hand. (Note that this dominant color can be either light or dark. Dominance has more to do with the design or line elements rather than color.)

Since this was a gift, I did not want long floats on the wrong side. Therefore, I used Tatyana’s method (Heavenlyclassy on Ravelry) for the stranded work. You can see how the wrong side looks in one of the photos at left. (Scroll down for train photo.)

For the white parts, I used this method which is particularly well suited for small areas of intarsia.

The designer gave me permission to make the sleeves wider and to add some colorwork. Instructions for how I did my sleeves are in my notes here. You will need to purchase Vicky’s Fiona sweater pattern to see the chart that I used for the sleeves.

Needles used:

Size 3 US (Susan Bates) - neckband and all ribbing

Size 5 US / 3.75 mm (Addi) - All stockinette parts

Size .5.5 US / 4 mm (Addi) - All colorwork

Weight of finished garment: 11.5 oz. (326 grams)

This yarn has tremendous yardage. It knits up beautifully. Not sure if it will pill or not. I will ask my niece later. It’s also machine washable and dryable. “Soft Twist” is a good name for it because it is very soft next to the skin. Not sure I’d use the Aloft yarn again for this type of stranded work because it makes the white areas stand out a lot. I was going for fluffy, white doggies, so I guess I achieved that.

I did an alternating cable cast on for the neckband which looks similar to a tubular cast on.
