I cut the tail that was on my index finger. I work with the tail on my thumb.
Prepare to join in the round. Slip off the slip knot from the needle. Transfer the extra stitch to right needle. Pm
Then start round 1: *slip 1 KNITwise, knit 1, psso*
Weaved in tail that was cut as I go. End row with *slip 1 KNITwise, k2tog, psso* (90 stitches)
Knit Chart A.1 (60 stitches)

Ribbing k1 p1 for 20 rows (2 inches)
Folding edge - *k1, lift corresponding stitch on first row of ribbing on left needle and k2tog*

You will be knitting the other way now so there is a big gap.
Move 1 stitch from the right needle to the left needle and wrap, then put the wrapped stitch back on right needle (to close the gap)
Knit 1 row and reduce 6 stitches evenly- k5, k2tog, *k8 k2tog* 5x, end with k3 (54 stitches)
Knit stockinette for 14 rows (3 cm)

Knit 26 stitches
Top of foot 28 stitches - set aside
HEEL FLAP (26 stitches)
Knit stockinette for 22 rows (2 1/4 inches)
Slip the first stitch of every row.
HEEL TURN/ DECREASE - end with 14 stitches
A different way to turn the heel. Mine came out with holes. I don’t like it.
Place BOR marker at start of heel stitches.
(Put 2 markers for heel stitches and 2 markers for top of foot.)
GUSSET - start with 13 each side; stop decreases when there are 5 stitches on each side (52 stitches)
Pickup stitches
First row - knit through the back loop in gusset stitches to tighten stitches, while also doing the decreases.
