Yarn and 15mm circular needles have arrived so I can now make a start. Really looking forward to making this.
2/1/14 - Using 3 strands of yarn as pattern suggests. Cast on and began knitting in plain garter stitch. Six rows in and needles broke, the plastic wire came loose of the needle. Real heavy duty knitting!
4/1 - Fixed my needles using super glue.
I’ll never learn…used up my yarn and only 16 rows (27” wide and 7” long)!!
Realised that this was going to be way off the mark but it really is so substantial and looking good. To continue though would take masses more yarn and make it impossible to draw together at the top and bottom as this cotton tshirt yarn is nowhere near as stretchy as wool. Decided to undo then work out exactly how much yarn I’ll need to finish and whether to knit it single stranded or double the yarn. I will also introduce some short rows to make it more manageable to close at the top and bottom.
5/1 - ordered more yarn and will be knitting single stranded. After seeing how it looks with 3 strands thats definitely in mind for a later project…maybe coinciding with moving house;-)
Found a drops pattern very similar incorporating short rows so I’ll be referring to that too.
6/1 - having second thoughts…I’m thinking its got to be at least 2 strands so yet more yarn needed! While shopping today I bought a cheap grey fleece throw from Primark to line it with.
Having ripped out my original knitting I’ve started again using 2 strands of yarn and short rows. Provisional cast on 36 stitches.
7/1 - the yarn I’d already ordered arrived today. Knitting growing, circular needles holding up well for the time being, arms getting plenty of exercise!
8/1 - I can’t believe these needles are still holding up…they’ve been taking such a hammering. Full points to Pony 15mm circulars even though I’ve had to glue them.
9/1 - finished knitting and not needed to purchase any more yarn. Used kitchener stitch to graft both ends….nearly there just need to fill and close ends.
10/1 - all done and stuffed with 2 king size duvets and a pillow…great storage! I made the mistake of trying to cover with the fleece throw from the top but should have lined when empty - may redo. Unstuffed this probably weighs around 3.5kg but felt much heavier towards the end…more like 10!! I think it turned out fine using 2 strands of yarn but as the pattern says you can really make whatever size you feel like. Finished length was around 55” but difficult to be accurate due to the fact that it’s now stuffed.
Such a fun make and really quick. Love it.

NOTE:
The size of my skeins were approx 850g and 100-120 metres in length. Not 380g as they appear to be specified. You can, as of Oct 2019, still buy the larger skeins. I used 4 skeins in total, holding my yarn double.
