Pattern does not indicate whether gauge is for smaller or larger needle; I got gauge on smaller needle (US3) and used that size needle for the entire project.

I found the pattern instructions for “distorted stitches” (German short rows) confusing, so I watched some tutorials for German short rows on YouTube. The one I found easiest to understand was by The Blue Mouse Knits. For the short rows, I went with the smaller size instructions and left 44 stitches unworked before resuming working in the round.

Following the comments by others who have knitted this pattern, I put some ribbing in at the tummy to avoid sagging and/or flipping up in that area.
