Making this lace pattern for Baby Allas (instead of a heavier solid blanket) as he is due to arrive in May (gettin’ warm out!) and the yarn is unbreathable acrylic.

I modified the side ribbed borders to 16 sts instead of 24 sts so as to have the border be relatively symmetrical.

This is going somewhat slowly, but it’s pretty. The WS has bobble-like bumps that need to be loosened/unwound individually.

April 19, 2011: Almost done! I’m done the knitting part, but I made a mistake awhile back and noticed at the time that a couple of rows weren’t quite right. They didn’t seem noticeable, but it turns out they are (very visible different lines of pattern across the blanket). When I noticed it, I decided not to go back and fix it. My advice: if you notice you’re off track, don’t just wait till the next row and inc or dec to get back to the st patt — tink it so the lace pattern stays pretty! Now I’m going to embroider some strategically placed stripes and maybe a few randomly placed baby shapes (bunny, heart, etc.).

April 22, 2011: To unwind the back of the stitches as I mentioned above, after the knitting was complete, I discovered that I could give the work a good tug and the stitches would mostly unwrap themselves. I systematically did this around the entire blanket before blocking.

April 23, 2011: I opted to simply weave some worsted weight contrast colours in lines + the perimeter. Done! Good thing too — ‘cause Baby Allas is on his way now, two weeks early!
