Recommendation:
Stagger the increases on even rows after r 5 to get a circle shape vs an octagon.
For example:
r 4: 2 sc, (inc, 4 sc) 7x, inc, 2sc. (48)
r 5: (5 sc, inc) 8x. (56)
r 6: (3 sc, (inc, 6 sc) 7x, inc, 3 sc. (64)
and so on for r 8, 10, 12, 14.
Likewise for the decreases, stagger the decreases on the odd rows on r 21, 23, 25 and 27.

No sew, except for the ears.
Face / body are made all in one, increasing to size, a few rows worked even, then decreasing. The project is stuffed or insert placed as the back part gets smaller.

My project:
Used 12” commercial pillow insert.
Made crochet cat eyes because I didn’t have big enough commercial animal eyes of any kind.

Light brown worsted yarn (body): held 3 str together
Dark brown bulky yarn (face): held double stranded

Made feet with paw pads and tail.
